Campaigning for a more inclusive future
Every person with a learning disability deserves to be seen, heard, and valued. Yet too often, they face barriers to education, employment, healthcare, and everyday life. At Richmond Mencap, we believe in a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive—regardless of ability.
Our campaign work aims to raise awareness, challenge discrimination, and influence real change on a local and national level.
Together, we can break down barriers and build a society where people with learning disabilities are truly included.
Our Working Together Group (WTG) is a team of adults with learning disabilities who act as representatives and advocates for the wider learning disability community. WTG is committed to promoting the rights and voices of people with learning disabilities within the London Borough of Richmond but also nationally.
They play an active role in consulting, quality checking, and campaigning to improve services and raise awareness. Working within the London Borough of Richmond. WTG reviews key documents, consults with local stakeholders, and assesses the use of terminology and language around learning disability to promote inclusive and respectful communication. Their aim is to increase the presence and influence of people with learning disabilities within decision-making processes.
They have worked and continue to work with local key stakeholders and organisations, notably the NHS, local businesses, advocacy groups, the local authority, and Transport for London (TfL), bringing lived experience and valuable insight to shape more accessible and inclusive services.
The group meets every two weeks on Tuesday mornings. To express an interest in joining the group contact office@richmondmencap.org.uk
